Former First Lady Jill Biden surfaced for the first time in months to give an interview to CBS Sunday Morning.

The timing is no accident. Dr. Jill, as she prefers to be called, is launching a new book called View From The East Wing. Along with her publisher, she is looking for maximum media exposure.

These book deals — often in the seven-figure range — are standard for both Republicans and Democrats. It’s impolite to call them payoffs, but they represent hefty compensation for doing the party’s bidding.

The Obamas’ deals were reportedly worth more than $65 million, not including a Netflix contract said to be in the high eight figures.

Hillary Clinton has earned tens of millions from books and speaking fees. In 2003 she received an $8 million advance for Living History, a record at the time.

President George W. Bush earned a reported $7 million for his 2009 memoir Decision Points.
