I came to know the late Senator Lindsey Graham through my reporting on the 2016 Clinton email scandal and the Russia collusion allegations against then-candidate Donald Trump. 

The Senator from South Carolina was one of the first lawmakers on Capitol Hill to call out the double standard in the Clinton email case: Clinton knowingly mishandled classified information by using a personal, unsecured server for State Department business. 

Graham openly challenged the surveillance of Trump campaign aide Carter Page, as well as the Steele Dossier, which we now know was largely opposition research funded by the Clinton campaign. 

At the time, few reporters and lawmakers were willing to challenge the prevailing narrative that Trump was a Russian asset and that then-FBI Director James Comey was beyond reproach.

Through Graham’s position as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, hundreds of documents and deposition transcripts were made public.

We learned that virtually every rule for obtaining a surveillance warrant from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA Court) had been broken.
