FBI DIRECTOR: OUT OF A JOB OR OVER THE TARGET?

TOP LINE

As FBI Director Kash Patel claimed he had enough evidence to bring arrests, like clockwork reports began to circulate that Patel would soon be out of a job.

As the expression goes, the incoming attacks are at their worst when you are over the target, or in this case, on the cusp of bringing criminal charges.

Timing is everything.

This week, former CIA Director John Brennan, looking ashen, shaken, and probably knee deep in legal bills, lashed out against alleged government weaponization now that he is a target.

We also learned the controversial FBI probe Arctic Frost that collected telephone records from more than a dozen GOP members of Congress and 400 Republican-linked individuals began earlier than previously reported.

And then there's the White House Correspondents Dinner

SHOOTER AT WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER WAS KAMALA HARRIS SUPPORTER

According to the Daily Mail,  who hosted the FBI Director at the dinner, Patel “acted swiftly to protect others as shots rang out…(and) immediately instructed others at the table to get down.”

Daily Mail journalists reported hearing three to four shots as Secret Service agents instructed them to stay down.

Before Patel and his guest, girlfriend Alexis Wilkins, left the ballroom they asked the reporters if they were OK.

The shooter, 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, who had travelled from California, was a Kamala Harris supporter.  Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche says Allen was likely targeting members of the Trump Administration.

DEEP DIVE: KASH PATEL OVER THE TARGET

Five hours earlier,  reports began circulating via an unnamed White House official that FBI Director Patel may soon be out of a job.

Politico was first to publish the claim.

“It’s only a matter of time,” the official told Politico, who was granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

The official said the number of negative stories centered on Patel is “not a good look for a Cabinet secretary,” and Trump is fed up with the level of distraction.

There is no doubt Patel needs to keep his head down and focus on cleaning house at the FBI while reducing violent crimes where the bureau has made real progress.

It’s worth noting that the FBI Director is not a cabinet level position and Patel reports directly to the Attorney General who IS in the cabinet.
