FBI Director: Minnesota Somali Fraud Probes “Buried Under Biden”
Congressional hearings scheduled next week
TOP LINE
As the Minnesota Somali Fraud Probes exploded on social media, I exclusively reported that FBI Director Kash Patel believes the investigations were buried by the Biden administration because the probes potentially implicated democratic allies.
It is not a stretch. The fraud, publicly exposed by independent journalist Nick Shirley, is massive. Some estimates suggest hundreds of millions of dollars were stolen from state and federal programs for nutrition, childcare and adult day care.
As of this writing, Patel confirmed to me that the FBI is exploring whether these alleged Somali fraud schemes are part of a network spanning several states.
Instead of focusing on the alleged fraud, some newsrooms prioritized investigating the journalist who exposed the story. It’s a classic “shoot the messenger” strategy to discredit the reporter’s findings.
These newsrooms are apparently annoyed that an independent journalist scooped them, and exposed a story they might have hoped to avoid.
DEEP DIVE
Director Patel has been tracking the Minnesota fraud probes for months.
Based on my reporting, Patel went to Minnesota in July to oversee the investigations to confirm progress was being made.

THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS
Because there are no shortcuts in financial fraud cases, I understand the FBI is surging resources to Minnesota including forensic accountants and data analytics teams.
