Eric Swalwell Controversy: Worse Than You Think
Sexual misconduct allegations, leaking sensitive intelligence and more
TOP LINE
Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell is in a heap of trouble.
As Politico described it, Eric Swalwell's campaign for California Governor is “imploding” after multiple women accused the congressman of sexual misconduct.
It didn’t take long. Late Sunday, Swalwell suspended his campaign and apologized for his “mistakes in judgment.”
Two weeks ago, Swalwell’s lawyer threatened legal action against the FBI Director over a separate matter.
Kash Patel was reportedly considering the declassification of investigative files about Swalwell’s relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, Christine Fang.
And then, there are allegations of leaking sensitive information.
DEEP DIVE
Last summer, FBI Director Kash Patel declassified records from the Russia collusion investigations. These FBI interview summaries, known as 302s, alleged that Democrats used strategic media leaks to characterize President Trump as a puppet of Putin.
These 2016 and 2017 media stories set the public narrative and laid the foundation for the years long Russia Collusion investigations which culminated in the Special Counsel Robert Mueller probe.
The accused leakers include then Democratic congressman Adam Schiff and Congressman Eric Swalwell. The former FBI Director James Comey is also singled out for his role in high profile media leaks.
Of the 266 pages declassified by Director Kash Patel, an October 2017 report stands out.

It alleges that leaking by Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee was “not a one-time thing” and that there was a “system established.”
The FBI report alleged, “...notes would be run up to the ranking member, ADAM SCHIFF, after which a decision was made as to who would leak the information…”
An FBI Supervisory Special Agent was the source of the account, based on the agent’s conversation with a Republican House Intelligence Committee staffer.
While the GOP staffer’s account could be dismissed as partisan, another FBI report from August 2017 levels a similar complaint. While the interview subject’s name is withheld, it also appears to be a member of the House Intelligence Committee.
According to the FBI report, (redacted) “noted (Democratic congressman) Swalwell has been the source of a lot of leaked information and had to be counseled to be more careful.”
When the records were first declassified we reached out to Rep Swalwell’s office. On X, Swalwell claimed the October 2017 whistleblower “made it up.”

August 2017 FBI Report: “(Redacted) noted (Democratic congressman) Swalwell has been the source of a lot of leaked information and had to be counseled to be more careful.”
Schiff has called the declassified records a “smear” and "absolutely and categorically false.”
WHEN THE ATTORNEY GENERAL IS A NO-SHOW
On Tuesday, Pam Bondi was scheduled to testify, under oath, before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein.
After Bondi was fired as Attorney General, a senior Justice Department official notified the Committee that “the subpoena no longer obligates” her to appear.
The DOJ official argued the subpoena was issued in Bondi’s professional capacity as Attorney General and not her personal capacity.
But everyone knows it is only a matter of time.
