Arctic Frost Probe: Worse Than Watergate?
FBI “Burn Bags,” John Brennan probe accelerates, Grand Jury subpoenas
TOP LINE
This week, it seemed clear that the Justice Department is building a criminal conspiracy case that alleges former government officials targeted President Trump in a years-long campaign to disqualify him from office.
Subpoenas were drawn up in Florida as the investigation into former CIA Director John Brennan accelerated. Brennan is accused of lying to congress about the 2017 intelligence assessment that concluded Putin “aspired” to help elect then candidate Trump.
At the same time, records uncovered by FBI Director Kash Patel reveal potentially incriminating evidence was hidden in so-called ‘burn bags’ that are used to incinerate sensitive government records.
There is a growing body of evidence that for the better part of a decade one political party used the tools of government power to investigate its political opponents.
In this case, it seems all prosecutorial roads may ultimately lead to a Florida court.
DEEP DIVE
Late Friday confirmation came from trusted contacts.
Prosecutors in Florida are moving to issue multiple subpoenas including former CIA Director John Brennan, FBI Agents Peter Strzok, who was the former head of FBI counterintelligence division and Lisa Page. It is part of a Justice Department probe into the origins of the 2016 FBI case that alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Strzok is a major player in the case because he opened the original FBI Russia probe codenamed Crossfire Hurricane in the summer of 2016. The anti-Trump text messages between Strzok and Page also revealed evidence of political bias, which the two agents denied at the time.
The new subpoenas are being issued out of the Southern District of Florida. This significant development was first reported by Fox News Digital.
Seven years ago, in 2017, as the chief intelligence correspondent at Fox News, I was among the first to report that the FBI Russia Collusion investigation was deeply flawed.

The statute of limitations has long since passed on several potential criminal charges. With that in mind, the new subpoenas strongly suggest that the Justice Department is bringing a conspiracy case.
The legal argument is that there was a conspiracy to target President Trump that stretched from 2016 when the Russia Collusion allegations first surfaced through January 6 2021 and ultimately, the Special Counsel Jack Smith investigation which included the 2022 raid on Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Critics call this legal approach disconnected from reality.
The last point is important because it comes down to geography. The Florida raid for classified records may be the hook allowing current prosecutors to pursue conspiracy charges in southern Florida.
